Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Manager is a key individual in our manufacturing management system responsible for operations through the entire value stream. Production Managers at Purple manage, motivate, and train Line Managers and production employees. They are responsible for operating equipment and processes to achieve aggressive targets in key metrics such as safety, quality, throughput, cost and inventory control. The Production Manager collects data and communicates performance metrics to upper management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads, motivates, and trains a diverse workforce creating teamwork and ownership of production results

  • Plans the most effective use of equipment and personnel to meet current and future production requirements based on sales volume and inventory (Kanban) levels

  • Manages production KPIs including Safety, Quality, Throughput, Labor Costs, Uptime, and Work In Progress (WIP)

  • Collects data to create reports and communicate results to upper management

  • Uses data to identify areas for improvement and coordinates improvement efforts across all value streams

  • Applies 5S principles to assure a safe working environment for all production workers

  • Champion Continuous Improvement tools and methodology

  • Monitors quality and initiates actions to prevent product or process nonconformities

  • Ensures consistency with employee corrective action, discipline, and performance appraisals

  • Executes staffing plans and partners with HR in recruiting, selecting, and onboarding, employees

  • Perform other duties as required or assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience

  • Lean Manufacturing certification or commensurate experience

  • 5 years of production management experience

  • Experience successfully leading a large production team

  • In depth understanding of production principles and general plant operations

  • Capability to establish production goals, and methods to reach goals

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Ability to make sound, independent decisions based on functional expertise and experience
